Career advisor functions
- Assist in organizing advisory board activities, orientations or career fair, and graduation functions.
- Assist the students in developing their skills in communication.
- Conduct student-focused, impartial, personal career guidance interviews with clients (in group/one-on-one) which challenged and support them to make informed, realistic and adaptable career decisions based on self and opportunity awareness, aspirations, motivation, confidence and approach to learning and which, if necessary, broaden their horizon.
- Coordinate outreach programs to promote career advisement services among their clients.
Determine the student’s individual traits, assets, and transferrable skills in relation to the position they hope to obtain. - Educate the students about any potential weaknesses in their skill sets and developing plans to address these.
- Examine the students’ personal and academic accomplishments and how these may have influenced their potential career decisions.
- Conduct referral of career information and labor market information and intelligence to enable learners to identify, access, interpret, and utilize valid and current information that is relevant to them, including the appropriate use of information technology, e.g., social media and web-based information sources.
- Hold one-on-one sessions with students to provide tailored professional advice.
- Help students in resume preparation, interview skills, and job search strategies.
- Maintain regular contact with the Career Services Head of SWDS for possible opportunities.
- Generate and maintain student records in support of personal guidance interviews, including a summary of agreed actions or an action plan.
- Work with students to develop skills that support learning, such as effective time management and study habits.
